Chris Draper competes in "Ultraman" in Hawaii

Chris Draper, Registered Dietician and Certified Trainer at PEAC Health & Fitness, competed in the Ultraman World Championship, a three-day, 320 mile (515-km) annual endurance race held in Hawaii. The race is divided into three stages over three days. The first is a 6.2-mile (10-km) ocean swim, followed by a 90-mile (145-km) cross-country bike ride. Stage two is a 171.4-mile (276-km) bike ride, and stage three is a 52.4-mile (84-km) double marathon. Each stage must be completed within 12 hours or less. The swim portion of stage one must be completed in 5.5 hours or less. Participants who do not reach the finish lines within the time limits are disqualified.

This event attracts athletes who seek to explore the extreme in physical and mental abilities. The race is limited to 40 athletes on an invitation-only basis and attracts participants from around the world, including Brazil, Canada, Italy, Puerto Rico, Spain, Sweden, Slovenia and the United States.

Chris Draper finished 15th overall and 10th amongst the men’s division! Chris completed day one’s 6.25 mile swim in 3 hrs. 18 minutes, followed by a 5 hr: 58 minute bike ride, in 30 plus mph wind conditions. Day two’s journey took Chris 8hrs. 56 minutes. “It was quite an epic journey, which allotted for a fantastic way to see breathtaking views of the ocean/island, including the town of Hilo,” said Chris. Chris did well on day three’s double marathon, despite the tropical conditions. He finished in 7hrs. 38 minutes. Overall, his total completion time was 26 hrs. 13 minutes; placing him in the top ten amongst the men’s division.
