East Amwell Students Explore Fitness at PEAC
December 2009

Introduction to Fitness is one of PEAC’s newest programs designed to introduce and educate students on fitness, nutrition and wellness. Geared towards middle school age students, at any athletic or fitness level or experience, the goal of the program is to introduce several components relating to health and fitness.

“This program is offered to the schools complimentary from PEAC as our contribution to introduce and educate students on fitness and good health,” says Michael Briehler, President of PEAC. “Our instructors, presenters and educators associated with the program are experts in their field; the students hear it from the professionals.”

In PEAC’s recent session with 60 students from East Amwell Middle School, Chet Snook provided an interactive presentation on exercise and fitness. Chet is a former Athletic Director with more than 30 years of coaching and teaching experience. John Marshall, Sports Trainer with PEAC Performance, focused on endurance. Josh Tyler, Director of PEAC Performance and a former professional athlete demonstrated speed and agility. Laurel Reid, PEAC’s Director of Group Exercise, along with Fitness Instructor Cheryl Curbishley, took the students through a diverse roster of aerobic fitness. Finally, Jill Shaffer, R.D. reviewed balanced nutrition, including caloric consumption, healthy snacks and general nutrition.

“The design of the program is to split the students up into small groups to provide a personalized and interactive approach,” explains Valerie Lopenzina, PEAC’s Program Coordinator. “We then coordinate a rotating schedule using many components of our facilities. The students need to come prepared to be active as well as inquisitive.”

Introduction to Fitness is being offered to schools throughout the community. If you wish to learn more about this program or for your school to be considered, please contact Valerie Lopenzina, Program Coordinator at PEAC 609-883-2000 or email VMLopenzina@PEAChealthfitness.com.
