PEAC Health & Fitness raises awareness for Eating Disorders
February 9th, 2011

FEBRUARY 2011: CHANGE THE MESSAGE PARTNERS WITH NATIONAL EATING DISORDERS ASSOCIATION AND PEAC TO FIGHT EATING DISORDERS

According to the Academy for Eating Disorders, the incidence of eating Disorders has been on the rise in the last 30 to 40 years. Anorexia and bulimia affect 10 million females and one million males in America, while millions more suffer from binge eating disorder. These eating disorders and body image problems cause physical and emotional harm to the sufferer and have devastating effects on families and communities. Each February the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) and thousands of people across the country conduct outreach efforts to bring critical information and resources to the public.

Changethemessage.com is a campaign to empower individuals and communities to resist dangerous, eating-disordered thinking and behavior founded by local psychologist Nancy Logue, Ph.D. and nutrition therapist Jill Shaffer, R.D. They are joining with PEAC Health & Fitness to raise awareness of eating disorder and body image issues and opportunities for prevention and healing. “PEAC is happy to promote this worthy topic during February this year,” said owner and president of the club, Michael Briehler. “Health is so much more than the physical aspect of fitness. Our goal has always been to create a positive social environment through education, motivation and encouragement. We welcome the opportunity for Nancy and Jill to support changes in eating disorder associated thinking and behavior for benefits of a healthy lifestyle.”

PEAC will have an information bulletin board display, literature in the locker rooms and sell “Stop Bad Body Talk…change the message” buttons at the club’s Service Desk throughout February for the benefit of NEDA’s education programs. On February 12th, members will have the opportunity to interact with the changethemessage.com team from 10am – 2pm. Additional free educational literature will be provided, and Real Beauty posters and feeding the mind sporks will be for sale.

For more information via email please contact info@changethemessage.com. PEAC is located at 1440 Lower Ferry Road in Ewing.
