April 1, 2011

PEAC Health & Fitness held its fourth annual “Runway to Runway” on Saturday, March 26th benefiting the Mercer County Chapter of the Sunshine Foundation.

PEAC’s doors opened at 6pm, to a steady stream of 500 community supporters, local dignitaries, media representatives and distinguished guests. Along with spectacular entertainment, guests enjoyed food donated by local restaurants, wines poured by R & R Marketing, and bidding on over 130 donated silent auction items.

Generous food donations were provided by the Blue Bottle Café, Cherry Grove Farm, Conte’s Saloon, Cugino’s Italian Specialties, Cup of Joe, Deli-Licious, La Villa Ristorante, Mastoris Diner, Metro Grill, Palermo’s III, Peasant Grill, Pennington Quality Market, Philly Pretzel Factory of Ewing, Piccolo Trattoria, Rosa’s Ristorante, Wegmans, and Wildflowers. DJ Ron Meisner provided a soothing serenade for guests as they dined and mingled before and after the entertainment showcase. In addition, Runway To Runway 2011 was supported by ten local sponsors helping to bring this night to fruition: Allegra Print & Imaging, Borden Perlman, Clancey Berkowitz Chiropractic & Physical Therapy, Inhouse Marketing Group, Lanciano & Associates, LLC, Mercer County Woman, Prince Sports, Princeton Orthopaedic Associates, P.A., Springhill Suites Marriott, and West Trenton Hardware.

The Rising Stars of Bordentown kicked off the entertainment showcase with a “Jersey Boys” medley, followed by vocal performances from Craig Lieboff, Savannah Jones, Christie Williams, and the Marvelettes. PEAC’s Zumba team and Allentown High School’s Percussion Ensemble also gave electric performances. Special guests included two beauty queens, Julianna White (Miss New Jersey USA 2011), and Savannah Schechter (Miss New Jersey Teen USA 2011). PEAC staff surprised nine year old Emily Gerlach, the event’s guest of honor and former Dreamlift participant, with horseback riding lessons at Laurita’s Reindancer Therapeutic Riding Center in New Egypt, NJ.

Cher and Prince impersonators dazzled the audience with their finale performances. Participants shed tears of laughter with the arrival of surprise guest “Joan Rivers” (Gary Dee), as she effortlessly improvised a stand up comedy routine. Cher (Steven Andrade) graced the stage fully adorned in handmade Bob Mackie knockoff costumes and stunned the crowd with five different spectacular performances. Prince (Frank Moore) continued the excitement, getting the crowd on its feet−even inviting guests to dance on stage with him!

For the second year, Andrade and Moore generously donated their performance services to help the Sunshine Foundation. Michael Briehler, PEAC President noted, “They’re friends of mine, and they did this without asking for a dime.” Steven Andrade and fellow impersonators will be performing “Divas in a Man’s World” at Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City opening May 2011.

Together with ticket sales, silent auction and “Adopt-A-Seat,” and many generous donations, PEAC’s community raised $30,000 for the Dreamlift! We reached our goal of exceeding a total donation of $100,000 since Runway’s inception in 2008. “We called tonight a Grand Event and the community made it happen! Thank you to everyone who helped bring this event to life—we had another amazing evening and made a difference in the lives of so many deserving children,” said Laurel Reid, Chairperson of Runway to Runway at PEAC. “Somehow PEAC always manages to top themselves each year!” said Cathy DiCostanzo, Sunshine Foundation President. “It’s all thanks to members of the local community and PEAC staff donating items and volunteering their time for this wonderful cause,” added Cathy.
